Story from Lean on me by Tor Roxburg and the Lean on me sexual assault support group
My name is Hamish and this is my life story. To begin with, I come from a broken family- my parents were divorced when I was five years old. I went to live with my mother until I was eight, then there was a custody battle which my father won.
It was only a year before the abuse started to happen. At first I didn’t know that was going on, then my father told me it was meant to happen and so I started thinking all fathers must do this to their children. This went on until I as twelve when I saw a leaflet on incest and began thinking about what my father was doing to me. It went on for another year. I started taking drugs to block everything out, and go addicted. After a year, I went to the police and told them about my father. They called me a bullshit artist and told me to fuck off. I never told anyone else until I left home and started going to Shepparton South Technical School where I met Bronwyn Derrick. After that, I went to Lean On Me to try to understand what had happened, and how to cope with it.
